Hi,

I am think about getting a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 and shooting more film again as a few months ago I snapped my 50 f1.8 in half after some stupid cycling :bonk:

I am a big fan of Kodak Portra but it costs a bomb (£4+ on 7day shop) is there anything that is nice and cheap but similar?

Thanks

Kodak Ultra 400asa 36exp....50p ea
Kodak gold 200asa, Fuji 800asa etc etc

None of it's particularly low saturation stock (like portra - as req. by OP) though...

edit: sorry - missed the Reala

Thats possibly because I bought a lot of it!

I bought some when it first came up for sale and I think it's possible the best colour print film I've ever used.

Portra VC = Vivid Colour, so nothing like low saturation

Astia has muted colours

Portra NC on the other hand as per kodak's site

PORTRA 400NC
NATURAL COLOR FILM
For subtle color and natural skin tones in low-light situations or with on-camera flash.

I don't think Reala would satisfy you for what you want. I have shot a few rolls and thought it was pretty crap, neither here nor there and would definately over expose a bit if I was forced to shoot it again.

I'm afraid to say I think only Porta NC or the fuji equivalent would give you the colours you want.
