:help:What would you advise as best lens & canon slr camera to use for indoor horse shows, with very low light please????

what sort of distances are you faced with?

a 40d/70-200 f2.8 IS would cover most bases there i think if you want canon

nikon do a similar lens too, with maybe a d200 body.

money isn't an object is it

If money is no object, you should consider a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR and the Nikon D300, even at high ISO's the noise is very minimal. Of course you're talking over 2k for those 2 items, but it's about the best Nikon offer, apart from the D3 which is over 3k for the body alone.

Or what DF suggests for a Canon offering

:)I should point out i already have canon L series lenses (sorry Nikon)

You don't say what Canon body you're using at present?

Low light means high iSO's, so image noise is likely to be your biggest problem. Any of the Canon bodies with the new Digic 3 processor will produce the lowest noise at high ISOs.

It's difficult to advise on a lens without knowing what distances will be involved, but the Canon 70-200 2.8L IS would be good with it's constant aperture.

i see you use a 1d mk2n, does that model use the Digic 3 processor?:help::help:

It doesn't.

The 1DMK3, the 1DSMK3 and the 40D are the Canon cameras with the Digic 3 processor. The forthcoming 450D will also have it.

agrea with ally above, the 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 and a highish end camera so you can turn up the iso a bit

also shoot in raw mode, because that will give you a bit of of extra space to lighten the image (raw handles exposure adjustments better than jpg)

Thank you all for your advice, much appreciated, and given me food for thought.

How about a low light wide angle lens? The restrictions are that it is for action sports and it needs to work full frame too.

Currently I am using a 50mm f1.4, but need to go wider...
