Don't know why but i have completely lost the will to use my camera, it has not left my bag since May.

I am off to the Mara in a couple of months time on a photographic holiday and i am not really sure why i am going now.

Photography over the past 4-5 years has been my passion but now it has gone and i am at a loss why:shrug:
I have even thought about selling everything

Has anyone else suffered from this? :help:

I've been in this position for a long time :(

Last time I had a real burning desire to use a camera everyday was when I got rid of an olympus 2020 and bought a fuji s602

thats a fair few years ago !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your going to a fantastic place soon, I don't think you'll fail to find inspiration......if you do....can I have the tickets?

I think nearly everyone gets this from time to time, and I think the length of time you loose your spark for is completely random. I think like with most things over time they tend to loose their shine, then one day you will suddenly get the urge to go out with the camera and be hooked again. I know this is the case for me anyway.

I think maybe the rather poor weather this summer might leave a few people feeling the same as you Notch :( but chin up, I am sure you will get the bug back soon!

Yup - totally agree. This happens with most people with whatever their hobby happens to be. Apart from being a wannabe tog, I have a passion for synthesisers and own three of them - real, classic superb sounding synths - but I haven't done any composing, twiddling, recording nor turned them on in several weeks now. Thousands of pounds worth of kit sat there doing nothing, right next to where I am sat right now!

However, I do know that I will find the inspiration and power them up soon enough though - as I am sure you will with your photography equipment.

Chin up...

Well you are a complete inspiration to my fun and games for Safari booking Lyndon :)

Drop me a PM if you ever sell that 300,500, 400 or 600 Come to think of it the 1.4/2.0 TC 70-200 2.8 etc etc !! Just kidding.
If you fancy a change of scenary pop down to Cardiff and see some different wild animals mate - Cardiff town centre of a Saturday is worthy of a shoot in it's own right !

Head and chin up - It'll come back.

I'll give you £500 for the tickets if you don't want to go. ;)

But look, don't you have any raving fans who like your work? Friends and family will do, just other people who get pleasure from your pictures.

I can honestly say that if I even get a hint of 'why do I bother' syndrome, I just think of those raving fans I have and concentrate on them and their reactions. It's that audience that can keep you going. It doesn't have to be a big audience, just a positive audience. They are there not to critique your work, just to like your work. :)

Learn to recognise and love your raving fans. :D

Only May? I'm in exactly the same position as yourself at the mo. My photography inspiration has totally left me. I have photography books and magazines sat around that I have only flicked through whereas before I would have eagerly read them from cover to cover the minute they arrived. I think the last time I actually went out and enjoyed myself armed with a camera was in January when I was doing a project for college. After that, I did it because I had to. I still have stuff on my hard drive that I haven't processed yet dating back to March.
I think it happens to most of us at some point, and I'm sure that fire and passion will emerge stronger than ever at some point. Don't do anything drastic like sell your kit though. You never know, this safari may be just what you need to re-ignite those flames :)

Have a search on here. There'll probably be about 50 threads similar to this one! You just have to drudge through the low points.

Maybe your holiday and the scenery and the photographic potential will re-light your fire!

set some projects, force yourself to go out, meditate on it!

Have you lost the will to shoot or are you just having a 'why am i doing this?' crisis?

Thank you for your supportive comments

It has come as a suprise that so many others feel this way, i just thought i was having a midlife crisis.

Maybe i have just burnt myself out and my trip to Kenya may well reignite my passion. The weather this year has not helped and may also be a contributing factor.

Time will tell............

I am suffering this right now, even when I went to italy a 3 weeks ago, I didnt even take my dslr..my family couldn't believe it..but it does pass Notch..JUST DONT SELL YOUR GEAR because you will become interested again.

It'll come back. Just a few oportunities to get the creative juices flowing... and...
I've looked at your Flickr set ... WOW! They are good

oldgit is right y'know. You have some great stuff on your Flickr stream. I notice that most of your stuff is animal/nature related. Ever thought about giving something else a crack? A change of environment might get the creative juices flowing again..
