Looking to update Canon camera body, any advice?

I'm considering updating my camera bodies soon and have a few options. I currently have a 40D and a 30D, but thinking of getting either:

  • A used 1D mk2 and used 5D (mk 1);
  • A new 7D and keep my 40D;
  • A new 5D (mk 2) and keep my 40D.

I mainly ONLY do wildlife and landscape photography and have around £1700 to spend. What would you recommend? or have you suggestions for other bodies?

If your 40D is in good working order, then I would consider keeping that as your wildlife and longer reach option and getting a 5D2 for landscapes. I would image that would work out VERY well.
 
Another option is a 2nd hand 1DS mk2 they tend to go for around £1200 to £1500. But it will depend on what type of photography you do more landscapes or wildlife.

As much as I'd love to tell you to keep the 40D and get a 7D (as I did), your camera bag shows a lot of pure EF lenses rather than EF-S. With that in mind, I'd also recommend keeping the 40D for the long stuff and get a 5DMKII and couple it up with your 17-40 F4L for landscapes.

You're just about covered for every eventuality then. :)

Thanks for all the advice.

I think I will try to pick up a used Canon 1D II or IIN and then save up for the 5D mark II.

I've always fancied a 1D series camera for the better AF capabilities over the 40D. I do more wildlife stuff anyway.

I will have to update my camera bag. Not got the 500mm anymore (:shake:) or the 17-40. So, I guess a new landscape lens is in the equation aswell. Got a Sigma 10-20, but this will be no use on a 5D.

Will the sig 10-20 work on a FF body?

It'll fit and the mirror won't smack into it like it would with an EF-S lens but it'll be like looking through a black tube on a full-frame camera. :D

Best bet would be either the 17-40mm or the 16-35mm (if money wasn't an issue). :)
