Dear all,
I am looking to learn to set up a home lighting set-up (purely to learn and try portraits of family members). Currently I have
1) camera 40D(he he)
2) 2 flashes (1 430ex and 1 380ex).

What equipment would i need such as
Light stands, remote flash triggers etc???

Being a newbie in this I would highly appreciate all the help I can get with regard to equipment, technique and possibly where to get it.
This is not being lazy but purely because I am confused with so much what I see and hear.
Many Thanks for the advice.
Cheers,
Raj.

1 x light stand
1 x umbrella mount (to attach flash to lightstand)
1 x sync cable or wireless trigger set

That will get you started, and you may also want to consider

1 x convertible umbrella

You can do all sorts of shots with that, and when you're ready to add the second light, just double the above ;)

I would double up on that lot to make best use of your two flash guns. So:

2x light stands (Konig, from 7DayShop) - found the link http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=105297
2x brollies - from FITP
2x umbrella adaptors - from FITP
1x reflector - from FITP
1x radio transmitter and 2x receivers - from FITP

Total about £130, plus

1x background support + background paper - cheapest is probably by Interfit

FITP is Flash In The Pan who supplies strobist kit at very good prices from here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=157807 PM him and he'll sort you out :)

I couldn't agree more - maybe one of the softboxes instead of a brolly, but that's up to you :) FITP is your man for this kinda thing!
