Hi All

I’ve been lurking in the shadows for about a month and looking to join in, is there a how to section on here ie how to upload some of my pics and that sort of thing (rank amateur here)

Hi Bruce and welcome. Do you like to go by Bruce or Ian?

Many people use hosting site such as flicker but all I do as like you I want to keep things simple is click on that little icon on the top when you post which looks like a framed picture of a mountain. It's next to the smiley face. I think the site limits are 1,000 pixels along the longest edge and a max of 500kb.

If you are still confused after reading all the above, and your image is still not loading: please tell us where your image is stored and what the file name and size are, we may be able to deduce the issue.

I’m getting file is to large from my photos album on my phone/ipad and doesn’t appear to work at all from Flickr, although I haven’t looked at the 2nd link above yet, I’ll try again tomorrow.

If you are following the steps in the first Flickr link above, you are probably not selecting the right file size in the final step. You need to select the one that has 1024px as the longest dimension, anything higher will be too big a file.
If you are selecting an image in your Photos album to insert in the thread here, right-click the image and select Get Info. That will tell you the file size and dimensions, which need to be no more than what woof woof quoted at the top of this thread.
 
Right, got it sussed from Flickr just got to learn how to resize images outside of Flickr

Still a complete novice on the photography front though literally 2 months in
