Hello.

Im thinking about adding a couple of lenses to my 400d for a trip. I'm pretty sure Im going for the Sigma 70-300mm APO as a macro lens at that seems to get a lot of praise for its money on here.

I'd also like a wider lens, but not sure what, I've got the standard 18-55mm that comes with the canon and thats fine for general shots but I'm thinking a wide angle or fish eye would be nice, as I have a bit of a thing for fish eyes.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The 70-300 Sigma APO is a cracker for its money, no doubt about it, but it's not, in the true sense of the word, a macro lens, and if you buy it expecting that it will be then you're going to have a disappointment ahead I'm afraid. It has - for it's range - good close fosusing abilities - but it won't produce 1:1 macro images. Just make sure if you do go for that lens that you do get the "APO" version as it's far superior to its non-APO brother!

What sort of budget are you looking at for the two? I think the 70-300 can be had for around the £140 mark now, possible a shade less, but fisheyes tend to be on the pricier side. How about the sigma 10-20mm which so many people on here have got? Whilst not a fisheye - it does produce some interesting effects when used at the short end!

LOL - just found I've posted at the same time as Joe - and I must also echo his "welcome to the forums" comment!

Thanks, both of you. I've found the APO for 130 on ebay, so i think thats a winner, I know its not entirely perfect but I've not long had a DSLR and I think it will do me just fine for the next year or 2, that seems to be the vibe I get from current owners.

I was hoping to spend about 200-250 for the botrh but would push it up a bit for quality. I'll have a look at the 10-20mm

having just had a look at some of the pictures taken with the sigma 10-20mm on pbase i must say that im impressed. Am I right in thinking that for the price bracket sigma are as a whole better than tamron? From what I've read tamron are a bit hit and miss and the build can be quite plasticy and cheap. Im sure I read of someones falling apart in the heat?
