South-West England Looking For Recommendations Please?

It's my wife's birthday on 4th March and she wants to be whisked away to the West Country for a few days.

Being that it's March, i'm not exactly ruling out scenic but it could be a dull affair, so anyone got any recommendations of places to go that have a wealth of historical architecture.

The wife does like her history so I can get busy with the camera and keep her happy at the same time

Any ideas all?

Can't help directly, Ian as I don't know that area of the country well enough but the National Trust and English Heritage websites might give you some ideas.
