Hi.... I am going on holiday in a few days and sometimes get bored if I end up laying about on the beach all day. I don't really like reading books generally but if it's something I am interested in then I can tolerate it (and even get engrossed occassionally), so as the title says, I'm looking for black and white photography book recommendations.

I'm a fan of black and white photography and I'm not exactly a novice so don't need anything too basic but I'm sure there is plenty that I can still learn on the monochrome topic. I realise that what I'm looking for might not exist but thought I'd ask just on the off chance.

I'm looking for something that might discuss the various aspects, from spotting what will make a good black and white image but also talk about specifically processing black and white images digitally (but not film). I'm familiar with the term dodge and burn etc.
I'm imagining something that also includes some examples from well known black and white photographers too but not just a photo book, I need a reasonable amount of text with it too, in the hope of picking up some knowledge in order to keep me interested.
Oh, and one more thing.... It needs to be relatively small in size if I'm going to be carrying it in a rucksack to the beach with me.

I know it's a long shot but does anyone have any specific book recommendations ?

Thanks

A quick search on amazon brings up a few results - they're more 'how to' guides and they look alright, so perhaps start there?

I wouldn't dismiss photo books either, there is a lot to be learnt when looking at or absorbing works - perhaps Ansel Adams, Salgado, Fan Ho? Nothing beats sitting down with a book and a coffee to be inspired to head out with the camera

The problem with looking on Amazon is that it's difficult to judge the content, hence me hoping for someone to pop up and say.... Oh yes, this book I read is exactly what you're looking for... And then I can try find a bit more targeted info.

After a bit more online research and opting against several books following previous reviews I have ordered the following. If I have a strong opinion about it after reading I will report back incase it's of interest to any other forum members.
