I'm in a difficult position at the moment: desperately busy at work, know very little about film photography and urgently looking for gift ideas for a friend whose whole life revolves around this and time is running out so fast. Please if you are able to give me any ideas let me know.

About 60% of what she shoots is monochrome so I am thinking of perhaps buying some kind of special film because I think she values having something interesting/new to play with, perhaps something IR? (is this something that would work without any modifications to most 35mm cameras?, I know digital cameras usually have some form of IR filter that needs to be removed). She is only interested in film-based photography and uses it entirely for artwork, she already has a huge collection of old 35mm cameras and has favorites so I am not looking to find a new camera. She also already has a negative scanner.

I know that she also develops her own film at home, but has I think has no proper equipment for doing this. As I know almost nothing about developing film I am not sure if there perhaps is something that I could buy her to help with this.

Are there any other things that come to mind that perhaps I haven't thought of yet? or perhaps this is some kind of special film that is interesting to play with? I am in the UK so it has to be something I can find locally here, and looking for something around £20-30ish (~$30-40 US I guess), maybe more if it's a very good idea. Even if you can just suggest some really fun/interesting types of film to play with this would be great - I suggest this rather than just asking 'what is the best types of film around' because I know she would be much more interested in something odd/unique that will produce strange results than something that produces clear images.

I am sorry to ask for help with this not being a member of your forum, but I am just so desperate and under incredible pressure at work right now that I am looking for any help I can find.

Thank you

IR film will only need a filter and your good to go. So a couple of rolls of Ilford SFX (http://www.ilfordphoto.com/products/product.asp?n=12) or Rollei IR (http://www.firstcall-photographic.co.uk/products/1001/rollei-infrared-ir400-135-36-iso-400) and an appropriate filter would be a nice gift. I'm not sure exactly what filter would be best but I'm sure someone will pop in with an answer.

I wouldn't bother with processing equipment, if she's already doing it she's probably got all the gear she needs.

These people always have a variety of whacky film on sale http://filmphotographyproject.com/store/film they're US based so delivery won't be that quick so if it was for a Christmas present you may have left it a little late.
