It's with great sadness that I'm sharing the news that my dear brother has suddenly passed away.

He was a very keen photographer and some years ago posted many pictures to a photo site that geotagged images. It may be that it has since closed. I've tried searching but no luck.

Can anyone think what that site could have been?

Sorry to read this Tim, I hope you can find the site and see his pictures again.

My condolences to you and your family.

I wonder in your search for the website, if you have copies of some likely candidate images maybe doing a reverse image search the website might reveal itself?

Edit ~ possibly stating the obvious ~ have you searched based on his name and/or any web user names he could have been known by???

thank you. I remember one image he had was the most viewed image of the bridge in Shoreham-by-Sea a few years ago but now it's not showing up.

I can't help either but really sorry to hear your sad news. :(

If you have access to his email account(s), maybe a search would throw up logins or password changes etc. Or maybe search on “geotag” In emails.

This review from 2009 says:

My top pick is Flickr, with SmugMug and Google's Picasa tied for second.

Google password manager or Apple equivalent? You can see a list of websites even though you might not be able to access the passwords. Also, look at the History in whichever browser your brother used to access the web?

Can't think of many, Fotki was the first one that sprang to mind, it does still exist though.

My condolences and I hope you find the website

My condolences.
Hope you find the photos so you can save them to remember him with joy not sadness

If he was keen he probably backed up his work. As long as he didnt encrypt his pc hard drives you should be able to easily copy any images to your own computer

Sorry to hear that Tim. I think what you're after was called "Panoramio". I used to add images to it years ago when geotagging first became a thing. It was acquired by Google in 2007 and absorbed into Google Earth in 2016. This Wikipedia page may provide some leads to tracking the images down https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panoramio

all his drives, USB sticks, and other media have low-level encryption so I don't there is any chance to recover them.

If the encryption is windows, and is only protected by the windows log on password, it is possible to reset that and log on.
