As the title says, im looking for advice on a macro lens for my canon 450d. I want this for up close photos, especially for babies.

Any advice is much appreciated as there are SO many to choose from.

Many Thanks!

Tamron 90mm f2.8 (£350), Canon 100mm f2.8 (£420) or Sigma 105mm f2.8 (£370) are the front runners, but you could also use extension tubes (Kenko 12mm, 20mm & 36mm £100) on something like a 70-200mm or a prime lens like your 50mm which is an alternative to a dedicated Macro lens.

Can vouch for the Canon 10mm & the Tamron 90mm. Not worth paying for the the new Canon L-Series as you dont use IS on a tripod.

I would have thought your 50 F1.8 should be fine for close ups of babies hands, feet etc...

I've the Canon 100mm Macro. Fine lens. I've always preferred a slightly longer lens for portraits. However you may find it a bit long on a cropped sensor camera. It will be the equivalent of a 160mm lens which I think is a bit long for what you want.

As suggested try the 50mm, or you 75-300. at the short end ( if you can focus close enough) to to see if these give reasonable results.

Thanks guys!

Going to have a shot on my 50mm with my friends new born baby, so i will let you know how i get on. Going to add the recommendations to my favourites for the future :D

Thank You!!!
