I'm looking for a connector to go on my lighting stand so that I can connect my SB900 flash to it and also add an umbrella...what type of unit do I need please.
Thanks
Dave
Have a search for Flash In The Pan (FITP - real name Graham), he's a member on here who deals in flash accessories and will probably be able to sort you one of those out for a good price
Thanks for the links Roger, I think I may have to look into this a little deaper, dont want to buy something that will only last a short while.
Cheers
Dave
The manfrotto originals are very good, but are heavy duty and just plain heavy. Important if you are carrying three or four of them.
I must have five or six varying designs of umbrella adapter, and most are pretty poor, inc the one in the OP posts. The Manfrotto is the best of the bunch. You wont need cold shoes if you are using the RF602.
I wish they imported the photoflex from the US, as they appear perfect and being made of plastic, very light. Very popular in the US.
Hi Kris, yes, that photoflex looks perfect, could you please explain what you mean by ''You wony need cold shoes if you are using the RF602'' please
Thanks
Dave
A cold shoe is only required if you are attaching your flashgun directly to the umbrella adapter. For example, if you are triggering your gun through the Canon ETTL infra red system, or via a cable to a pocket wizard or similar. Far better to use a hotshoe fitting triggering syste, if you ask me.
The RF602 receiver has a brilliant hotshoe fitting into which your flashgun slides. Underneath the rf602 receiver is a female screw thread fitting which the stud from the manfrotto umbrella bracket will screw into.
Of course, you can always use an rf602 receiver as a pseudo cold shoe, and just dont turn it on. A rf602 receiver will cost you 15 squids, a decent metal cold shoe will cost at least five. Id rather have a spare receiver for another tenner.
