Hi all,

As the title suggests I’m looking for a head to fit on my Manfrotto BeFree tripod which is good for shooting panoramas. The head supplied with the tripod is great for general use, but the screw which loosens to allow horizontal movement also loosens the ball so the camera drops. This obviously makes accurate panoramas next to impossible!

Can anybody help me out?

What weight are you putting on it? What's your budget? These two factors are quite important...

It will have to support a reasonable amount of weight as I’ll be putting a 70-200GM and Sony A7RIII on it amongst other things, but that combo would be its biggest challenge. In terms of budget, I don’t want to go TOO nuts if I can help it, but at the same time I’ve learned from prior experience that buying mega cheap can be a total waste of time. So let’s just say I could stretch to reassuringly expensive if I had to, but I’m not made of money ;)

Just an idea... Use your existing ball head to level and use something like this between the head and camera....

 You sir, are a genius! I didn’t know anything like that existed. That saves me a whole load of money and I get to keep the original head (which I like) on the tripod. Doesn’t look like it will add much weight or bulk to the tripod either so it’s a win all round.

A hearty :plus1: to you!

You are welcome... it is just a case of adding the correct QR plate (if you use one, not sure what type of camera fitting your existing head uses) and use a small Arca plate on your camera/lens...:)
