Looking for a camera for my sister

I want to but, new or used, camera for my sister. It needs to have wide angle and about 40x zoom. Articulating screen. Not too big but a camera with a decent battery life.

Its needs to be easy to use as she just wants to point and shoot

Any suggestion for around £250

Is the 40x zoom totally necessary? The higher the zoom, typically, the smaller the sensor used on theses sorts of cameras. Your budget is a bit limiting for new compact cameras of that spec; For big sensor (far better detail, less noise and better ISO) the sony RX100 is bang on - BUT only has a smaller zoom..

Panasonic TZ80 has a much bigger zoom, but a smaller far less good sensor - its a tricky one, swings and roundabouts really.

Bigger camera, such as the panasonic FZ200 retains a small size, but gives you a big zoom crucially it retains its 2.8 aperture. It still has a small sensor - but its one of the best performing small sensor models available. Its bang on £259 too..

Thanks, that's spooky as I have been looking at the Panasonic Lumix FZ200

Best price I have found is £260 at Amazon. However there seems a few on ebay 2nd hand

Will aslo have a look at the Sony RX100, thanks
