I've been looking around at some of the budget Tablets, £200 and under and thats my limit, it's not something i'm going to be using a lot, a bit of web surfing maybe watching a video while travelling, not really interested in games, hence why i'm not looking at an ipad or Samsung Galaxy, i tried one of those GoTabs from idealworld shopping channel, but a load of crap, and there customer service is abysmal, so it went straight back. I've just been looking at a couple on Amazon and Ebuyer sub £200, please take a look and let me know what you think, and if you have some better recommendations do please throw them into the mix, i must admit i'm leaning towards the A1CS Fusion premium at the moment (good battery life) but there is also the Onda Vi40 and the Scroll Extreme from Ebuyer, anyway your thoughts appreciated :)

I spent about 3 or 4 months going through the same debate you're having and I ended up going with an iPad 2 16Gb wifi only for £250.

The reason I went with an iPad is because they are so damn popular that pretty much any App you'd ever want will be available for it. They have really good battery life (I get a minimum 10 hours use out of it) and they are well designed and easy to use.

I was really reluctant to buy an iPad because I've never been an Apple fan, I thought the iPhones were over hyped and over priced but I am really glad I got the iPad.

To stay within your £200 budget you could get an iPad 1 16Gb wifi only and it will definitely do everything you'd ever want it to and you won't be disappointed. Look in to all the other brands but don't discount the best selling tablet out there.

Thanks for your imput, a couple of questions though, am i right in thinking the ipad has got no expandable memory, or any inputs ie USB, HDMI, Micro SD, and what do you mean when you say wifi only ? and where would i get one for £200 ? Thanks :)

You're right, it doesn't have expandable memory.

By WiFi only I mean no built in 3G capability.

You can connect cameras via USB with a connection kit but there is no hdmi.

You can get them for under £200 on here or on eBay.

So you mean second hand/used, i thought it sounded cheap lol, i was really looking at new though, i.d like to have a warranty for at least 6 months. So do they have a USB connection then ?

I bought an advent vega for about 100 pounds. Refurb ones do come up every now and then on eBay.

In order to get the best out of it you have to install a custom rom which is straight forward. The only down side is the screen viewing angle.

Also worth having a look at the tabs sold by futeko. These are Chinese imports but you deal with a company based in the UK. Have a look on hotdealsuk for reviews.

I have a usb connection for mine.

Archos 10.1's come in 8gb and 16gb flavours.
They also come with USB, HDMI and micro SD slots.

Screen is 16:9 native so ideal for watching movies and it will play back 720p

I picked up my 8gb version for £129.

Ok so it isn't going to blow the socks off its competitors but hey, it will browse the internet just fine and plays music and video just fine - all that I wanted it to do.

You keep adding to your requirements. Perhaps if you were to explain what you want it for people might be able to make more useful suggestions.

I thought i had, read my original post ! where have i added to my requirements then ? i said from the start it wasn't something i was going to be using constantly, hence why i wasn't going for an ipad or the like, how is saying i was looking to buy new adding to my requirements, i would have thought that was obvious unless i stated otherwise ! as regards having a USB point, most of the budget Tablets have, so really i have no idea what your talking about

Obvious to you maybe but unless you actually say it then the rest of us can only guess. If you want the best you can get for under £200 then you'd be much better off buying second hand. I'd have thought that was obvious.

Just because most budget ones have them doesn't mean it's obvious to us that it's a priority to you.

If it's so obvious to you what you want, why bother asking for advice?

Rob are you just trying to antagonise ? a couple of points, yes if i was looking to buy second hand i would have said, as the Tablets i mentioned and linked to were all new and under £200. You say if i want the best i can get for under £200 then second hand is best and that is obvious, well no actually it's not obvious, or maybe you think that because thats what you did, suppose i buy second hand and it dies after a week, i don't think that would be money well spent would it ! particularly as i have no warranty, it's £200 down the drain. As regards your comment

"Just because most budget ones have them doesn't mean it's obvious to us that it's a priority to you"

Where on this thread did i say it was a priority that i had a USB connection ? i was just pointing out the fact that the budget Tablets have them. My point was if i was going to buy one i may as well get one with a USB port for the expandable memory, as most only come with 8gb to 16gb built in, so better to have than have not. And to answer your silly comment "why bother asking for advice" yes i have a rough idea of what i'm after, however there are some decent new tablets for under £200 and there are some useless ones, hence why i asked if anyone new of any other ones other than the ones i have linked to. I hope that has cleared things up for you ;)
