Hi there,

Anyone know where I can get some flexible desklamps that are rated for 100W+? I want to use them for a tabletop studio and so would need to be able to take either an E27 screw cap or baynonet cap daylight bulb in them.

Cheaper the better!:D

Thanks

Tried B&Q?

If you were feeling really clever you could wire it up to a dimmer switch and add a diffuser. :)

Why not use a normal 60w rated lamp and fit energy efficient bulbs?

I'm trying to keep the driving around to a minimum and so would prefer to find something online first that I can either go to a store to purchase or buy online.

Unfortunately B&Q don't want to tell me what they have in stock.

I've so far tried Ikea, Argos, Tesco, Homebase, Marks & Spencer, Focus DIY, The Lighting Superstore, Lighting-Direct and The Lighting Room. A couple of them have 60W versions of the type of lamp I'm looking for but I'd really rather use 100W or even 150W if I can find them. I like the idea of the rheostat. I was just going to make a frame from balsa wood and use tracing paper as a diffuser?

I was hoping I could find an alternative to the large, bulky and hot, 500W tungsten continuous lights I currently have to use. Maybe I should take a look at the Interfit daylight continous heads.

I've found the light from energy effiecient bulbs to be rather pink and lower than their claimed equivalent wattage (even after allowing plenty of time for them to warm up) Also, they don't make energy efficient versions of daylight bulbs AFAIK, probably because of the aforementioned colour tint?

When fitted with daylight bulbs the desk lamps would also double up as handy lighting for my wife's hobby bench.

 Thanks for the link. They're very tempting. I'd have to sacrifce the dimmer/rheostat though I believe? I recall we had to remove the dimmer switch in our living room when we gave energy efficient bulbs a go.

Do you you any experience of this company? We ordered a total of 15 7W energy efficient candle bulbs from screw fix direct and when they arrived they were so poorly packed that 7 where smashed. We obivously got replacements but I'd rather deal with a company that can deliver them properly the first time.

Thanks for the link Paul

As I'm looking for 2 of them, £68 is a bit to rich for my blood at the moment, especially since I've just bought a Sigma 30 f/1.4 and a Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS for my wife and a Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro for myself ;)

Looks like I'll be giving the energy efficient ones a try then in a couple of £6 lamps :D

Those anglepoise lamps are(were) used in many hospitals as patient bed head lamps, if you know of a hospital closing they will be throwing hundreds away...just a thought

Paul
