Hi guys,
A strange first post I know but the potential answer interests me.

When I see shots taken with cheaper long lenses at their longest, the images sometimes look like they are screen shots taken from frame grabs of a movie.

Highly cropped imaged sometimes display this too, to my eye at least!

Does anyone see this too or am i the only one and has anyone got a mildly technical explanation for this?

Cheers

Not sure what you mean by this.

Maybe the aspect ratio of the shot? Like a widescreen TV? That is all I can think of that matches what you are saying.

If so then shots can be processed this way, either by cropping or blending multiple frames together.

Sorry I didn't explain myself very well!
I was thinking more of the IQ, I'll try to find some examples tomorrow that might help!

He means very low IQ, probably motion blurred and generally low resolution.

Sounds like you're just not shooting steady enough or at a fast enough shutter speed.

Would anyone be offended if i found some examples from this forum to try to explain. I dont want to offend the owners of the shots or the admin.
Let me know and i'll post some examples.

Trevor, for shots with a movie feel look at the Flickrstream of Loomax.

To get the movie feel it does help to be shooting with at least a medium telephoto. Common lenses I see used that give a really good movie look are 85mm, 135mm or fast 70-200 zooms. Composition and processing are also key elements. There are certain movie conventions with aspect ratio and composition. And the right processing can either emulate the colours of a specific movie film emulsion, or the trademark look of a specific director.
