Afternoon all,

I want to do some long exposure stuff with a Nikon D200. I did a google but cant find a definitive answer. Whats the longest I could leave the shutter open?

In theory as long as your battery holds out.

Set it to bulb mode (set to manual, increase shutter speed til it reaches 'B'). Your shutter will remain open as long as the button is held down*, so get a remote release unless you want a very sore finger.

*I think some cameras limit this to 30 minutes. Is that long enough for what you want to do?

30 mins would be plenty. I was aiming for around 10-15 but I was worried about the chip burning out.

:)

Thanks.

I have never heard of a long exposure picture, or multiples of it, causing damage to a sensor. Not to say that it may not do so .. but it's something I've never read about.

Would be interesting to know how long an exposure would be needed to actually cause damage.

Keep in mind, long exposures will cause the sensor to heat-up!
