OK im pulling my hair out here, how do I get longer expro out of my 400D and the 1D MkIII. Want to do some painting with light, got my flash and gels, got an old barn, but holding down the button dont seem to do anything, either on the cam or the remote.

I know its easy, but what am I doing wrong????
 
Silly question but you ARE set to bulb aren't you?
 
I sure am, the 400D beeps, waits 2 sec then takes a pic at what ever the cam is set too, its driving me nuts.
