"Long Distance" phone charger?

For convenience, I'd like to be able to wirelessly charge my phone BUT it lives in a case that's too thick for Mrs Nod's Samsung IQ charger to work through. I've found several chargers that boast of over an inch separation between pad and phone - does anyone have real world experience of a similar situation and/or recommendations (or, perhaps more importantly warning offs!) for particular products?

Budget isn't a major consideration BUT, as always, not too expensive!

I have a feeling you need certain types of cases to work with the wireless chargers that work through cases. But there is the issue of heat and whether wireless charging plus heat leads to overly toasty phone.

I got a wireless charger and it was just terrible. Think it was an Anker one. Also supposed to charge through cases. It would fail to charge a lot. Gave up and stuck with a cable in the end.

Mrs Nod has a Samsung charger that works through her Samsung case and works well on my (non-Samsung) phone when it's uncased or in its less protective Motorola case/jacket but I'm fairly sure I'd break it in the jacket!

I'd be a bit wary of chargers making those claims. And I would, as said by another poster, worry about the heat a lot in that situation

I'd either go for a thinner case or just charge via a wire

There was a mention on a consumer programme only yesterday about these. The problem is the Lithium battery where airlines will not allow you to take them on board. Lithium Ion is/can be quite nasty stuff,

Never had a problem taking Lithium batteries on flights but always take them as hand luggage (although I think some things can be packed in hold luggage now). When I've used Mrs Nod's IQ charger on my (uncased) phone, it didn't seem to get hot BUT I have a feeling that the Samsung charger has a fan in it to reduce heat build up.

One of the airlines (I forget which) has just increased the restrictions on power packs in carry on (except for very small batteries in things like air-tags or toothbrushes, lithium batteries must not be in hold baggage) to a max or 1 power bank, and it must remain disconnected (IE no charging the power bank from the airplane, or devices from the powerbank)

We recently had a clear-out of old phones and cases so didn't have one to do a mock up but do have a selection of very thin leather and assorted card/board to recreate the distance between the charge pad and phone with a thin bit of leather as well - it worked, so 10 minutes with a new-bladed X-Acto knife saw the case semi gutted and charge through - at least using Mrs Nod's Samsung pad! Keeping a close eye on the temperature.

The idea that airlines won’t allow:
Cameras
Laptops
Tablets
Phones
Ereaders
Headphones
Etc etc
on board might become problematic for 99.9% of passengers.

They do state some guidelines regarding charging items on board though which is sensible.

The problem is clearly your case, I think I’ve bought cases specifically designed for the wireless chargers?

BA have a limit on numbers of batteries (but not unreasonable), which, given my recent trip to Prague wold've been problematic if they did enforce it as I'd have to go back to the hotel on a regular basis to recharge my batteries....

As for phone wireless chargers I have had a Belkin fast charger since 2018 - the only time it struggles is during periods of hot weather when it ceases charging.

We both have bedside wireless chargers for phone, watch and headphones, and travel versions of the same.

I recently discovered that I can charge my toothbrush on the headphone pad (slower than its bespoke charger but got me out of a spot)

Yup! Cheap (but protective) case rather than the pukka Motorola one which MIGHT allow through-case charging. Taking out the cardboard and plastic inside the case now allows me to plonk it on Mrs Nod's Samsung charger to keep my phone topped up.
TBH, I'm a very light user of the phone so it's not a real problem to plug it in once a week or so - I'm just lazy!!!

I've always thought (well, at least since I first drowned a "waterproof" camera!) that induction charging and wireless file transfer would be the ideal for underwater kit. The kit could them be properly factory sealed. A decent size battery would add a few grammes to the weight of the rig, as would the wireless aspect but that wouldn't matter underwater.

I was in a meeting room with Yealink wireless desk microphones, it did not take me long to experiment with my iPhone and the microphones' charging docks. It works the phone charged and did not suffer any noticeable damage, I have not yet tried our induction hob!
