Hi,

I often hear it mentioned that x or y lens isn't much use here in Blighty, which is fair as that scary orb in the sky isn't exactly reliable, so on an RF full frame body, what would be a good long lens (that actually works) that doesn't cost the earth.

I'm going to guess as the EF 100-400

No issues here with the 100-500 tbh. Using an R6ii - I'm content to up the ISO to allow a faster shutter speed - can get a bit hit & miss in December but still plenty of opportunities

My buddy has an R7 & is often moaning about the light being poor (he uses a term that rhymes with light though)...

Yes I find EF 100-400 m2 a great all rounder and works fine with RF adapter. I haven’t tried the RF longer focal lengths.

Taken Dec 31, 2023 11:38 in North Northumberland in a woodland 10000ISO, 500mm, f/7.1 SOOC

The 100-500 would be a no brainier if I had the money as it seems to double as a macro, which would tick two boxes, but the cost...

Taken Feb 26, 2023 11:06 400mm (EF 100-400 II) f/5.6 again in a woodland, SOOC (may have been the first outing with the R6ii - or maybe second)1000000668.jpg

100-400 ii or 400mm f/5.6L. it depends on budget. I have the prime and it just about resolves up to 8k and costs less than half of the zoom. MFD is longer though. Not a big issue for moonshots :ROFLMAO:

Good mention on mfd, that can be a proper pain
