Hi all

Heard part of a story on the radio 2 news today about lone men in public parks may not be allowed or questioned by council officials as to their motives for being there :cuckoo: can anyone shed any further light on this :suspect: God forbid they have a camera with them :D

Bit I heard on some news was it is one park somewhere that is asking anyone in the park what they are doing. Sounds stupid, but at least they are asking everyone, can't wait for a list of answers to be published.

An adult male, in a park, alone, with a camera? You'll be strung up from the nearest lamp post, you're clearly after young kids :cuckoo:

This country is going completely mad, why the hell should I have to justify going for a walk on my own to some council jobsworth?

Moved this to "Out Of Focus" by the way - not really "General Photo Sharing" material :p

Park Ranger: “Are you a paedophile or terrorist sir?”

Lone man in park: “No”

Park Ranger: “Fair enough Sir, sorry to have troubled you”

How more bloody stupid can this petty paranoid society get?

I read that story in the Telegraph today...........lost for words!!!!

I heard that on the Jeremy Vine show, absolute madness, if this is the way our country is going, we're doomed.

What was worrying was the people who came on to defend the councils bampottery! Normal law abiding people being asked to justify their normal law abiding actions??:bang:

Like the OP said, imagine someone had a camera with them?

I mean, even if they did go up and challenge a peadophile, they're hardly gonna tell some council warden that's what they're up to!

 ....

My understanding is this was aimed at single people, male or female. And it was up in Telford.

A council official said they had a duty to protect children. Silly me, i thought that was the job of the parent...

ps: Maybe a park in Telford would be an ideal TP meet up venue?

It was on the BBC news last night. Apparently, council officials in this one park will now challenge anyone 'acting suspiciously'. It didn't specify a gender. They did interview a woman who had been asked to leave - she had been dressed as a penguin, handing leaflets out to do with global warming. Apparently, being dressed as a penguin entices children. She was also informed that she needed a CRB check and a permit (to hand leaflets out!!). So... watch out for penguins in local parks - they may be paedophiles

The world is just going completely mad imo. I understand the need to protect children from harm, but this is just going way ott. What next - a global ban on cameras? I can't see it being too long before you need a CRB check and a special license to be able to purchase a camera :cuckoo:

i find the fact that civil liberties and the rights to be in a public place are being eroded. Not every one is a wierdo, some people do go to the park to relax one of the reasons for it being there. As for perverts three were found in an area adjacent to where i live. All were women one in her 60s.The other side of the coin not related to parks or being solo is my grand daughter made a two fingered gesture to someone who was staring at her . This person then trawled the schools to find her and the head teacher admitted this person to berate and scold and demand an appology. At no time was a relative informed or an independant witness called for.Who is to say this person wasn,t a pervert and used the opportunity to observe kids.

Oh come on, we must protect the children

Some single men are paedophiles so ban then
Some single women are paedophiles so ban them too.
Some couples want to abduct your children so ban them as well
There have been case of 14 boys raping 11 year old girls so let's ban all people over the age of 14.

I think you can see were I'm going so lets make it simple, close all public places down, don't let anyone walk the streets, and have all goods delivered to you home by a CRB checked and local government approved contractor.

We must protect the children you know.

As a note you must remember that Tony Blair got the presumption of innocence remove from English law, After the recent terror trial were a jury found the defendants NOT guilty, the CPS now wants a re-trial, so we will keep having a trail until someone find you guilty. We now know why labour wants to scrap jury trials.

This is getting ******* stupid.

Lets turn this on the head then and remove all play grounds from public parks and lock children in their homes. This would remove any guilt a law abiding people may have for simply walking through a pleasant park which is relaxing.

Think of the money the councils would save by not having to maintain/built these play grounds or have to police the area by asking every single person if they are a pervert or not.

Sry for the rant but this is just ridiculous. The majority are having to pay the penalty for the guilty few and the even fewer paranoids out there who seem to be in a job of some limited power.

I agree it is the job of the parents to keep the kids safe until they are old enough to look after themselves. Yes the greater community has a responsibility to help out but not to the point where individual liberties are taken away. If the parents decide to take their kids to a park to play surely its the job of the parents to make sure those children are safe not some jobs worth at the local council.

I know I avoid some the kids area of a local park if I walk through on my own, god forbid I walked through with the 100-400 attached. I think I'd be hung, drawn and quartered without a trail.

Thats my 2p's worth

I was taken infrared pics in the grounds of a local country house last summer (using a the 10-17 fisheye) when I was approached by a woman from the house, which was so far away that with the 10-17 you could barely see it, and asked to stop taking pictures as I was "alarming" her children who were inside the house and too scared to come out in case their picture was taken.

I explained to the woman the type of shots I was taking and showed them to her and she went away quite satisfied, but it made me wonder just what the world had come to when parents were terrified to let their kids out in public in case they appeared in the background of photographs.

When the little darlings finally did make an appearance it transpired they were actually teenagers, not the tiny infants that I was expecting, who probably spend their free time posting risqué pics of themselves on their Myspace profiles

But we'd all have to split up! :D

Only until a member gets questioned, then we all rush the official with flashes going like billyoh..

Oh the joy:)

Can't we just ban Children from public places?

Surely that would solve a lot of problems!!!

:exit:

I'm gonna just enjoy the cat and mouse with the authorities.

After all it won't be too long before our public spaces are concreted over to make way for houses and offices!!

I hadn't given this all too much thought until i walked home from work tonight.

I walked either through or within 10 mtrs of 4 childrens playgrounds with swings, slides etc. I walked past 2 nursery schools, past a basketball court, and between 2 large playing fields.

These are all placed within the 2 housing estates that i walk through, where children are playing in the street and in gardens.

Bearing in mind i've walked this same route to and from work for 2 years, today was the first time that i considered there could ever be a problem with it.

I won't be changing my route, however, i now know that i should keep an eye out for irrational parents, who may have a problem with me walking that route.

Of course the reality (rather than the tabloid hype) is that the biggest risk to children comes from family members.

So, fill the parks with parents and leave the kids at home with their playstations etc.

Who reckons some TPers go to a park, set up a hide out tent thing and have a big lens sticking out and see how long it takes for it to 'kick off' :D

What about a lone man who is walking his dog?
I'm not single but I quite often walk our dog and take my camera with me.
I couldn't care lesss if a stranger, a park ranger or a copper askes me what I am doing.
I'll just look at my dog then look at the person and say 'are you f****** or what?'

I'm all for politcial correctness but somethings are going too far in this country.
The other day there were some lads (I'm guessing aged 14-16) at the skateboard park at Alexandra Palace.
They were doing some fantastic moves on their skateboards.
It would've been great to have togged them but I daren't even ask them for the fear of getting into trouble for it.
