I wanted to start making some short movies, been into filming for a few years but stopped it after getting into photography.

I love the lomo/super 8 effect and I would love to create some short movies and then put it to some music like the example shown below;

I realise that I don't need a good camera because the point is to have the cruddy lens effects that cheap cameras have so I was thinking of a cheapo point and shoot for around £30 or possibly get a new £50 P&S from Jessops or even a flip mino.

I will be getting a Samsung NX10 in a few months and will use that for video work when I get it but for now just simple video recording is all I need.

What way is best to recreate the lomo effect? I will most likely be using premiere elements if I have to buy software but I'd prefer a free way of doing it and the only way I've found so far is by getting the Digital Harinezumi 2 +++ but's it's pretty expensive for what it is.

Well, you could buy a LOMO camera and some film - and you're away.

If you mean the funky colours and contrast, that people seem associate with it - then just play around with your curves / levels. Manipulating the individual channels it's pretty easy to get the colours and contrast you want. No different to editing a still photo in Photoshop.

I didn't watch all of that video you linked to, but it looked to be lit with gelled/coloured lights more than it being from the grading, and then obviously there was a lot of layering of different exposures going on.

FYI recent Sony SLT cameras have a "toy camera" picture effect that works in video as well as stills.
