Hi all,

I have a logo I have made which I want to apply to photos I put on my facebook etc. It wont be a huge amount of photos just those I post up.

The logo I have is in CS5 and is made up of text and shapes/line tool. I will do a version with black and a version with white text so I can apply them to different coloured photos.

How do I make the background transparent and is that all I will need to do? Will jpeg support transparent backgrounds or will I have to save as something else?

Cheers

If you use Photoshop, open a new file, paste the logo as a new layer, unlock the base layer and delete it, go to layer properties and bring layer transparency to about 40% then save it as a .psd file, then when you need to use it, just open the PSD file and copy & paste to your file you are editing. Simples :-)

Cheers.

I found a quick tip online that if you use the magic eraser on the background it makes it transparent

If the logo is a simple black on white, or white on black image then you could just paste onto the image on a new layer and then set the layer blend mode to either lighten or darken to make the background of the logo disappear. You can then set the opacity level to how prominent you want it to be, solid logo, or a watermark.

png or gif for transparent backgrounds

simply open a new file in PS specifying a transparent background. if you allready have a logo, you will either need to paste it onto a new layer and do a cut out, or if it is in a layered PS file, extract the layer out and drop it on a second transparent PS file
