No
I have no idea if this was a scam or not. He did have an English accent.

Brrring, brring.

“Hello”

“I’m Cliff your local energy advisor. Your property has come up on our list has having an (something) loft insulation”.

He then went on to describe the loft insulation. At this point I put the phone down.

If the call was genuine then surely he would have addressed me by my name.

Scam

The missing word was probably "substandard" or "dangerous". I think I have had both over time.

Just ask yourself how anyone (especially if they don't know your name) would know what is in your loft?

If I was a lying scumbag git in that game, I would suggest you had mineral wool insulation that is only 4-6" thick... like probably 80% of the country.

If the original insulation was put in under some government scheme then there’ll be records somewhere. Quite possible that a firm has still got those records or they’ve been sold on.

I don’t think it’s a scam. The recommended thickness of insulation has gone up a lot, so they’re trying to flog you a top up.

I have had several similar calls which I then hang up and block. Even if it was honest, I would never respond to such cold calling but seek out recommended local companies to obtain quotations then evaluate and decide.

Are these the calls where they want to sell you the spray insulation...the type that a lot of mortgage companies won't lend against?

"Oh, sometimes our postcode is input wrong, what have you got for it?"

Scammers will disappear fast...

Ah yes. The (previous) Government's great initiative for insulating homes. Much of it was funded by public money - and only a cynic would speculate that the money found its way into their chums' pockets.

At one time the advice from surveyors if you have it is get it stripped out and replace the roof. Now it's just that you will never be able to move.

But does your loft need insulating? :D

I think the opposite. Spray foam insulation has been getting a lot of bad press recently with insurance companies and mortgage providers not wanting to touch houses that have it. The scammers are probably have some method of trying to scam money out of people playing on the fear that they may have something in their house that will cause harm/damage etc.

Well they seem to be calling me one a weekly basis. The latest call was "Hi, I'm Chris the local energy advisor for your postcode." But Chris still doesn't seem to know my name, address or postcode. The calls that I have received have been from well spoken English people, so I am wondering if they are using AI for the voice.

Googling the phone number 01223 976479 it seems that it is being used by several different scammers.

Because "well spoken English people" do not scam ?

The insulation business seems to have become a magnet for scammers. I had one cold call last year.I mentioned that for years I spread old bed duvets on top of the loft insulation and that snow takes ages to melt on my roof. He tried to tell me duvets were a fire risk. He could not explain why they are not a fire risk on a bed. ............ just another dodgepot MacDougall.
