Am seriously considering selling on my X100f , not feeling the love anymore

Been looking at premium zoom compacts maybe a bit more versatile

Budget would be X100f plus a couple of hundred quid , would need to be suitable as an everyday carry.

What would you suggest

Tia

as an aside

I bought last year for approx £25 a panasonic g2
And a 25mm 1.7 lens for £70

On my Imac I prefer the files from these to the ones from the fuji but apart from it's weight it's not really compact enough

a further thought is sell the X100f and buy an older compact , LX100 maybe and bank the difference

I have had an lx100 for about 5 years and as a m4/3 compact it has served me well.
It is just a little large for some coat pockets unless they are patch pockets on a parka type coat.
We went on a road trip in USA from New york to Nashville and back to Washington in autumn 2016 and that was the only camera that i took.
Small selction of shots at
Obviously hundreds more but not on flickr but this should give you a taste. of the range of stuff. All of the inside shots are in available light.

I flogged my LX100 and bought a second hand Canon G1X Mk 3. It’s a similar lens, albeit slower, and an aps-c sensor, all squeezed into a package about the same size - maybe smaller - then the X100. I’ve never used Canon before but I’m very impressed with its features and ease of use. They’re overpriced new, but second hand are much more reasonable.

I bought a Panasonic TZ100 which has a 25-250mm zoom lens on a whim as I fancied a compact camera and wanted to see how those 1" cameras performed. It's good enough for whole pictures and the files stand up to processing surprisingly well but it does all fall apart a bit if you pixel peep at high magnification and doesn't match the image quality of my MFT cameras but whole image wise the files can sometimes get lost amongst my FF Sony A7 pictures.

There's a thread here with some example pictures.

PS.
Another camera I'd recommend is the Panasonic GX80. I have one and also a GX9 and the GX9 is the better camera but the GX80 is a teeny bit smaller and lighter and crucially cheaper. A GX80 plus the IMO excellent and cheap and tiny 14-42mm G Vario Mega OIS could make a good general purpose camera and lens combination.

If I'm ever unhappy with any gear, it's gone. Photography is a hobby for most of us and should be enjoyable, if I buy a camera or lens I'm even slightly disappointed in I sell and try something else. Seems like you'd prefer the M43 system overall and like woof suggests above, the GX80 is a good choice, it's compact but also very capable. I enjoyed the M43 system when I used it, I happen to slightly prefer Fuji but I don't mind size - using the XH1 atm. I just find Fuji handles higher ISO images better and I like the overall look and feel of the photos Fuji cams produce, but I also really liked the M43 files - it's a very under-rated system. Also look at the likes of the Olympus em10 mkII, your 25mm 1.7 [very nice lens, owned it for a while] will fit nicely on there too. If you really want small/compact, look at the Olympus Pen series too

One thing that's always put me off the LX100 is that it's fixed lens camera and there are reports of sensor contamination which is difficult to remove if it can be removed at all as it's a fixed lens camera. Contamination should be less of an issue with a fixed lens but it can happen as reports say. So that worries me. I'd rather have a GX80 and a shorter range zoom and be able to clean the thing myself.

Yes, you are right there.
My LX100 was fine until about the last 6 months when a dust bunny has appeared which I cannot shift.
Ok, I can clone it out when it is obvious and it is always in the same place, but irritating nonetheless.

I loved the images my LX100 turned out, I liked the way it operated, and I liked the controls (I liked how reliably it would connect to the app much less... but I find a few cameras are shakey in that regard).

Mine got dust on the sensor twice, both times the water bottle/hoover/zoom trick (as touted on t'interweb) cleared it, but it poisoned the well for me... when would the time come when it didn't work or I messed it up? With that at the back of my mind it spoiled the experience a little, I'm careful with my gear but don't want something that I have to wrap in cotton wool (or feel that I should). It's a pity, its a great camera, but it had to go.

Yes, I too like the images a lot.
I tried the water bottle/hoover etc but it did not shift the dust and , i don't know whether i am imagining it, the zoom seems to be a bit more laggy since.
But I still use it as my coat camera.

I think that's what I'm looking for
A coat pocket / work rucksack camera I can just chuck in and take along for the ride/walk
It might just be me but I cannot bring myself to do that with X100f

My LX100 got a big dust spot right in the centre of the frame slightly above the half way up point so it was visible on most shots that contained sky.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to put forward suggestions. I have decided to keep the X100f I would only suffer seller's remorse if I sold it

I think I will look for a panasonic 12-32 to go on the g2 and use that as my bag camera

That lens has its fans but just in case you are not aware it doesn't have a focus ring and if you want to MF you focus using a scale on the screen. I've never used that lens so I don't know if earlier cameras have that facility. I do like being able to intervene and MF at times (like when shooting through stuff such as leaves and branches etc when AF can focus on the wrong thing) so much prefer a conventional lens with a focus ring. The 14-42mm G Vario would be my choice if looking for a small and cheap standard range variable aperture zoom. It's not as wide as the 12-32mm but you gain at the longer end and crucially you get a conventional lens with a focus ring.

Well changed my mind again

have GX7 and 12-32 on the way

if I'm happy with this combination as edc X100f will be on its way out
