Undecided Locations between South Wales and Leeds

I often travel between South Wales and Leeds to visit family. I mostly use M42 and M1, though no reason I couldn't also go M5, M6, M62. Looking for landscape location suggestions not too far off route. Most likely to be going around sunset time, and don't mind a bit of a hike.

Last time I made the trip I went around part of the Peak District and Thor's Cave.
