Hi all,

I'm currently based in London without access to a car (other than a ZipCar for a couple of hours).

Can anyone list some (relatively) easy locations to get to by public transport? Interested in architecture, seacapes and landscapes, people photography etc.

You live in London, surrounded by architecture and people. You have the London buses and the tube at your disposal. This has got to be a wind up !!

Nope, I want to get out into the countryside with my camera - I've done London to death.

Well, with the rail links available. you should have no trouble travelling to the countryside. I live in Deal, just outside Dover. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and takes a bit over an hour to get here. The cost is less than £40 return over the weekend. Choose a direction and go!

Without travelling too far I would suggest Richmond and Bushy parks as a start.

Just choose a town and check the rail timetable. Colchester, Winchester, Hastings, Whitstable, Eastbourne, for example, are all easily reachable from London. You can get to York in less than 2 hours if you fancy something further afield, or to Dover and a go as a foot passenger to Calais. Once you have thought of a place have a look at the OS map to see what is available in the area. Getting out into the countryside could involve another train or local bus or a walk.

Take a trip to Kings Cross, St Pancras, Euston, Victoria, Paddington and Waterloo.. have a look at the departure boards and see where you can go. Stop by the information desk and grab a handful of timetables. That will easily give you a couple of hundred towns to research. The library should be able to help you with copies of Pevsner, Mee's King's England guides, etc. as well as using Google from the convenience of home.

No!, No!, No! You have all misunderstood the question. He doesn't want to waste time on researching it himself. He wants you lot to do it instead and just tell him the answers. :ROFLMAO:

And pretty much most of the other useful answers, tbh you're spoilt for choice there's not many places you can't get to.
There's even a film meet going on tomorrow in Arundel, about 90minutes away from London from Victoria on the train, we'll be there all day. We don't even mind if you bring one of them new fangled digital cameras, we're not fussy, everyone's welcome.

Sleeper Train London to Fort William. Ask to be dropped off at Rannoch Moor or Corrour station. Sorted :)

So three weeks later ST599, where have you been and where's the photos?
