Hi,

I'm just asking for a bit of advice really.. i hope not to be laughed and boo'd out the forum.. lol.

I'm going on a location shoot on Thursday with a friend of mine :) she's going into modelling and as we used to study photography together she thought it'd be fitting to get me to do said images.
Which works for me cos i want more professional images.

I was wondering, for future shoots should i use 'special' equipment for location shoots?
I mean, i'm a complete technophobe and i've seen a few of my other 'friends' on facebook have these sort of light detector thingies? *prepares to be shot*

I don't own a flash gun but i have relied on natural lighting to create my looks.. so, will i need these said technologies to: 1) make me more 'profesh' and 2) better quality of images.

thanks :)

reflector... they're like £15 off ebay, just buy one. Dead useful.

What kit do you have (lenses)?

Long lenses are nicer in portraiture than wide. Wide lenses distort features although that can be used as arty and may work in certain places.

Really all you need is a camera and a lens. Reflector is a handy thing to bounce light back. Get one of the 5 in 1 reflectors.

A flash will help BUT you need time to learn how to use it.

Check out Zack Arias and his One Light DVD series - maybe too short notice but it shows what can be achieved with a light and a lens :)

80-200 will be a better portrait lens - 55 is too short. but still useful for taking environment shots.
