Hi,

We have an upcoming project for which we'll need some slideshow software, however it needs to have quite a specific feature and I'm having trouble finding something that can manage this.

So what is it I'm after?

What I need is for a slideshow, whilst running, to poll a directory for photo's and play them automatically. A kind of 'live' slideshow if you will.

Ideally this shouldn't be web based as I'll be running it from a laptop + projector however, if the only software to be found is web based then I'll setup a local webserver on the laptop to accomodate this.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Just use the Windows picture viewer or is that not the sort of thing you mean?

Not really what I'm after. It needs to be a playing slideshow that polls a directory for images to show.

So if there's 10 pics in a folder, it plays them and carries on playing them, when an image is added to this directory, it plays that on the next 'cycle'

It souldn't be difficult to program or write a script that will show a slideshow from a directory of images - then you just need it to automatically re-index the directory every couple of minutes to capture any new additions.

Any programming language should be able to do this if you know the right APIs for showing the images - you should also be able to do this in PHP or Javascript for a web based version (you could run it in a full screen mode to get rid of the browser menus).

I'd offer to write something but I really don't have any time at the moment, sorry!

If anyone near you has got a mac, then iphoto will do the trick

ProshowGold v.4 has been mentioned a few times on here, looks pretty cool.

Faststone Image Viewer will do that and it's free

EDIT; just to add I know it's an old thread but info added for anyone else looking for such software

another alternative is google photos screensaver
i have mine set up to look at a directory / folder ( including sub folders ) on my hard drive and it works a treat
you can set up the time interval as short as you like for the screen saver to activate meaning if you set the activation to 1 minute it will more or less be a permanent slideshow
