Wasn't too sure where to post this so sorry if it's in the wrong place. I was just wondering if anyone knew how what the process of getting a photography pass for live photography at concerts/gigs at fairly small scale/smaller venues. As i'm fairly new to photography i'm not too sure how to go about this.

My first guess would be to phone the venue and simply ask but I was just wondering if there was more to it than that?

Cheers

It allvdepends on the size of venue or band really. if your looking at the local pub then just turn up a little early and have a word with both venue and band. If it's a larger but not major venue e.g. small music venue then I'd contact the band beforehand and have a chat. For large venues etc then you'd need to contact either the band's management, PR, label etc. It does help if your covering the event for a magazine, website etc. Also it helps to have a nice folio or website to signpost on to. If your starting out as you say you are then get as many local bands under your belt to build your experience and show prospective clients that you know what your doing. Every wanna be rockstar loves to have their photo taken, that's the easy part. When I started out I used to tell venues that I was doing a photography course, that seemed to work and opened a few doors. Remember the bigger the names the harder it can be to get the photo pass so be prepared to send 10 mails and only get the 1 reply and that maybe negative!

I hope that helps.
