Looking at going for a quick visit to the area around Lindisfarne this weekend. Can anyone tell me if there is a parking area as close to the harbour area as possible for me to leave the van( very early morning). I wil be around the harbour and later at the island itself. If anyone could show the parking area on a map etc it would be even better or is it just a single road from the causeway area round to the harbour area- I will be turning up in the dark so any help would be great. Cheers.

I'd just park near the harbour mate, you can drive right up to it, there's a layby on the left as you drive down from the village. I park there all the time and never had any issues :-)

Saturday : Safe to cross - 00:10 until 07:50 and 12:40 until 20:40
: Unsafe to cross - 07:50 until 12:40 and 20:40 until 01:05 (Sun)

Sunday : Safe to cross 01:05 until 09:10 and 13:40 until 21:55
: Unsafe to cross - 09:10 until 13:40 and 21:55 until 02:15 (Mon)

If you can, I'd spend the day on there, or at least until around 1pm - It's great when the tide is in as the island empties and you get a great sense of isolation :-)

Thinking of heading there around midnight tonight for some star type shots, I know the moon isn't perfect tonight but I doubt I can make it next weekend. Hoping for clear skies or it's going to be a night tucked up in the van until sunrise. Will have the wife with me as well I think but she will likely stay in the van over night and come exploring with me when the sun comes up. I have directions to the causeway so assume it's just a little road round to the upturned boats in the harbour area? Anything else interesting in that area for a morning shoot except Bamburgh Castle( done that a few weeks back). Cheers.

You guys will probably be able to get over before 12:40, I'd get there about 11:45 / 12:00 as the times are pretty lenient.
Thought that might be the case, but as we have a 4.5 hour drive we can't be too certain of exact arrivals.

Mark, once you cross just follow the road past the car park and at the T junction turn left, if the is no parking spaces then just head back into the village itself and the are quiet a few places you can park without restriction. Around midnight the clouds we have now should clear so looks like you will be lucky.

Thanks, i have been watching the weather, moon phases etc to give myself a but of a chance hence getting there around midnight. I dont plan to be on the island until just before dawn so its just getting to the harbour for the upturned boats that im looking for at first. Cheers.

Have i got it wrong- are the upturned boats on the island once i cross the causeway?

Some thin cloud cover stopped play. The milkyway just wasnt clear of cloud so ting where i could whilst watching for cloud coming in. Gave up around 1.45am then back to the van till 3am to try again but by this time the cloyd was heavier. It did clear an hour or so later but by that time the sun was showing.just needs another try.
