I have a Nikon D7500 and a D7100 but I'm reluctant to take these out on walks. With a rucksack to carry, the dog to sort out etc etc, I just want a more lightweight camera for those trips to the Lake District. It's for a "record of what we saw" rather than a pro approach. Two cameras around the same price at my local store. A Canon M50 with a 15-45 lens and a Sony A6000 with a 16-50. Both have very low shutter counts. Your choice?

I know its not on the list but I use an Olympus EM5 for those trips, An EM10 can be had even cheaper

I had the Sony A6000 and it's a nice camera, although the kit lens wasn't particularly good. However, with the Sony 20mm f/2.8 it keeps is pocket portable as it's near enough a pancake lens, gives you a nice equivalent focal length of 30mm and produces lovely quality images.

You can get both used for less than £500.

A6000 at WEX
Sony E 20mm f/2.8 at LCE

An 18-200 to fit the Nikon bodies would be my choice, paired with a holster style shoulder bag (LowePro Toploader, for example.)

Sony RX100 VA or any of the earlier models from the Mk III onwards, really.

Bagged a Canon M50 for under £380 from LCE with lens. I know it will have limitations but it'll do for me and my limited talent. Thanks everyone.

Out of the two I would go Sony A6000 but only as I own one and know nothing about the other camera. I find the stock lens more than capable for general photography. That said I've gravitated to my cheap superzoom for it's convenience . As a point of interest what is the Sony going for ?

£460 from Harrisons cameras in Sheffield.

Camera arrived today. Very happy with the M50 and kit lens. It'll do an amateur like wot I am.

Nice photos, seems like a very capable camera.
