Anyone know of a cheaper alternative to the Gary Fong Lightsphere?

There were some LS copies on flebay a while back (don't know if they are still there) failing that theres the sofens diffuser, not quite the same but a lot cheaper and does a fair job. Theres always the dare I say it "tupperware" route? I'm sure a fairly easy conversion could be made, might try it one daye for a laugh. wayne

Nothing on fleabay at the moment apart from originals... she'll kill me if I start butchering her tupperware... :D

I've been looking for one of the clones to modify, but they seem to have vanished, I'd assume there's probably a copyright infringement involved....

Just use an old plastic milk carton.

Try Microglobe, I bought one there, it works very well, comes with white and amber dome.

I think LumiQuest Quik £42 is the best flash attachment. Expensive for what it is, but very versatile. http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1031217
Does fill, indoors and out, bounce, bounce and fill, landscape or portrait, and doesn't waste too much power squirting light behind you.

Or make yourself a bounce card for nothing. Shooting indoors they work really well :) www.abetterbouncecard.com

Handyest gadget is the StoFen, works well, like a mini Fong, beloved by press photographers everywhere. They must have sold millions. http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1006154

I was actually looking for something to give the 'bare bulb' effect... light spraying off in every direction...

Stofen, pointing straight up.

Really? I'll go have a look at them... often heard the name, but never bothered looking at them before. Cheers.

Look for Sto-fen (there, now you don't have to ;) )

A vending machine coffee cup was a popular improvised alternative.

Searching for what Don Blair called his "garlic light" came up with this.

Balance the bare bulb with ambient, and position it a bit below your subject's eye level, to remove any trace of panda eyes caused by light bouncing from above.

Ahh...that would do me, I want to paint it black......

I somehow managed to miss that original post - can't believe they don't fit SB-600/800/900 though...

I've got SB24/25 and 26 as well though, it'll fit one of those :)

I've got 2 x SB-28's but they're getting put up for sale this weekend... and I'm not keeping them so I can buy one of these... :D

I spent ages looking at this but the expert advice I found suggested the slip on diffuser that comes with the SB900 is just as good as the Stofen and you don't look like a **** with the Fong thing...

EDIT - Please don't try and avoid the swear filter.
