Is there a way to open my RAW files in Lightroom?

yes. its what lightroom is for...

If you've got the latest LR, then it should open just about every raw on the planet, from the main camera makers at least

what camera do you have? you might need to update it, but lightroom should import raws without difficulties.

Obviously I'm using it wrong..... I'm using a 20D but trying to view images that are on my desktop, in RAW format, they've come off my CF card this week. I'll go back and have another look

You need to import the photos into lightroom. open LR go to import (bottom left). then select the photos u want to import.

Ok, thanks for the help. It turns out i was being extremely thick. All is sorted now and now it is I've just seen my best ever shot, at least i think so. I'll post it some time....
