Edit My Images
No
Hopefully this is just a quick question but I've been pondering it so it must be a worthy one (if a little stupid). I've been using RSP for god knows how long and love it. I got the Lightroom v1 (free download) the other night and think its a cracking bit of software at first glance, slick, fast and does it all in one...well almost.
call me blind and/or stupid but where's the button to turn my processed raw images into usable tiffs or jpegs? in RSP it's right there on the screen - select images, click to process and it converts as and where you'd like it. in LR I can find no such button, adobe seem to have got it so nearly 100% right, but to me this is pretty instrumental in the whole raw processing workflow :bonk:
...where should I be looking?

oh and is there a way to add ratings in the library mode and not just in the develop mode?

Not sure I can help here, but...

You need to be pretty quick... for one thing. The free version times out at the end of the month (??) not long anyway.

not so for RSP users as we are led to believe. I have a fully-lubed up copy with license so there's no reason to suspect it'll poo-out on me in a few days. otherwise a large number of us RSP users will be mightily hacked off at adobe

Well what I did... was to manipulate each image with the colouring, exposure etc I wanted.... and then clicked on Open in photoshop. there i used layers etc to do my finer stuff and saved it as I always do..as a tiff.
Probably WRONG but Ive done 106 party photos like it...and Im happy with them.

You need to export the developed images to get TIFFs/JPGs, select the images you want to once you've made all the changes and hit the Export button at the bottom of the left hand control panel thing.

I think you can add ratings in Library mode, there should be a shortcut key (check the menus) or you should be able to add the rating icons to the bottom tool bar by clicking on the little down arrow icon at the right hand end of the toolbar.

^ Yup
click export to save the files as PSD, TIFF or JPEG.

To apply star ratings in the Library view click on the stars above each thumbnail, or, press T to bring up the tool bar and do the same on that. The tool bar also has a reject flag :)

For info
In Library mode press G for Grid view and E for Loupe view.

When you select "Edit in Photoshop" you also get the option to edit a copy and make a "Stack". Lightroom will then keep a reference to the copy in the library too. You can then collapse the stack up so you only see on version. You can do all sorts of other things with the stack too. I think it is supposed to make it easy to work with different versions of the same image (which it does indeed seem to do).

yes, there's much to learn with lightroom I believe. getting the hang of yet another program!

I'm still trying to get to grips with versioning.

I have a RAW file.

I make adjustments to it, which Lightroom saves in its database.

I open the RAW file wihtin Lightroom, and a new PSD is created and automatically stacked with the RAW. So far so good.

I make my edits in PS and save the file. Still fine. Then, I want to create my output, whether it be TIFF files for print, or small JPEG for web. However, how should I be saving within PS for the files to be associated/stacked/whatever with all the other files in Lightroom (without having to manually import them in Lightroom after saving in PS)??

I THINK it just saves all the editing you have just done anyway. The file came from lightroom so i think it has associations there still.

Im sure some MALE will come along and tell me different!! :D

Perhaps but I'm pretty sure your right. ;)

too scarred

I think I understand what you mean now and I think you may be right..... if you just open something called IMG 36 for instance...do stuff in lightroom, then open in photoshop, do more.. and save.. its still called IMG 36 it will still be there in lightroom.

If however in photoshop you SAVE AS.... football.jpg and save with other football images on your pc. to get that football.jpg image into lightroom you will have to import it.

Or if you "watch" your photo folder that contains the football images, does it automatically add it in lightroom?

Good point there!

think thats about right.
raw processing in LR is non-permanent and saves the adjustments for each image in a separate folder...this helps cause you always keep an unadulterated raw file.
For what I can tell you export that image to a folder or open directly in PS, then save as you like. I've not gone straight into PS and then seen whether there's a change in LR on that same file - its possible though. and again yes I think you're right about watching too.
to have a link from a raw file straight to a processed image in a file is a good idea so what's written here:
I open the RAW file within Lightroom, and a new PSD is created and automatically stacked with the RAW. So far so good.
is certainly a good thing - not that I have found out how to do it yet. erm, how?

as with all these programs its incredibly powerful but needs setting up in the right way. and tweeking to suit your preferences...

Edit in Photoshop -> CTRL ALT E or Right Click an image and select Edit in Photoshop :)
