I have occasionally read of people mentioning processing their images in Lightroom then opening them in another program (e.g. Photoshop) to do some more work on them.
I currently use PSE10 and am considering trying Lightroom. Must admit that I would prefer to be able to do all my processing/editing in one program.

Are there certain essential tasks that Lightroom cannot do ?

Pixel level editing. Compositing images - that sort of thing.

If you think of Lightroom as a develop tool (where you can tweak responses, colours, etc) as well as do a bit of brush-in development (like dodge and burn techniques) and something like Photoshop as an edit tool.

What LR has is powerful tools to make organising, developing and exporting easy.

There are 30 day trials of LR available from Adobe.

Hi, There is a lot of things you can do in L/R and far to many for one person to list but as stated above you can download the trial version and then have a look at http://www.jkost.com/index.html

to see what it can and cannot do for you and your work-flow.

Never come across a job title like that "Principal Digital Imaging Evangelist".

She sure seems to have the software at her fingertips :thumbs:
 
I've used most versions of PE & have PE10 but bought LR4 a few months ago. Now I use LR 90% or even more of the time most of the rest in PE10 when more detailed work needed but not often. Then I still have a soft spot for Picasa for a few odds & ends of tidying up.
 
It's clear cut for me; LR does all organising and general editing - PS does pixel-level editing, cloning, layer work, masking, clipping paths.

LR is invaluable for me in terms of archiving. I shoot a lot of product for use on B2B website where images are assigned a product code and aside from that, the editing tools are powerful plus I love the easy access you have to the catalogue of images. The 'edit in PS' function is useful too, although these days I'm doing all PPing then outputting as a PSD for editing (clipping, cloning)

Thanks, John and Pat. Very interested in your comments. Many folk comment on the organising aspects of Lightroom. I don't need that and, in fact, I would love PSE if that part of it could be ditched.
