Lightroom - no previews on offline files?!!

Having a bit of a meltdown here... I have a very simple workflow that means my files only stay on the main PC as little a time as needed before backing up. I've used the same system since 2010 with no problem, offline images just show as offline images, but the preview etc is all there to see.

I've just made my '2013' catalogue but then quickly needed to go back to something from 2012 so opened that catalogue... now, all the preview screens are blank grey!

Any idea's folks?

I've not done it manually, there have been some issues with my PC a few days ago though. Does this mean I have to reload the whole lot or is there some other way of getting the previews back?!

Either that or remap the galleries to the drives that they're currently on.

i think it works if theyre just offline but if theyve moved and not been found first i dont think it will work?

i think there is something to be said for a structured storage plan

thing is I've got a very structured storage plan, this is the first time it's ever happened - usually, I've got catalogues with files on that havent been on the system for 2 years that still show the preview, and if I need the file, just loading it up brings it back as accessible. Just this one single catalogue has gone completely balls up
