Hi All.

Doing some housework on my MacBook and after it all, I'll end up with a 750g SSD and a 500g HDD spare, my plan is to use the SSD as an external lightroom library that's mobile? (HDD will be back up)

I have a work imac running on my work apple account/adobe account, i also have a personal iMac that i rarely use, running a personal apple account (but would need to option just in case)
I have the full adobe package at work and on my home iMac and MacBook, Ipad, but the LR catalogues/libraries are computer/HDD specific as I'm aware.
I do use CC but that's going to get expensive if i need to go above the "free" storage.

(The reason behind this question is, my "work iMac" is top end, maxed spec, i sometimes use it for heavy editing/prem pro video editing ect, my home iMac is a lot slower, capable of the basics fine, but it gets stuck if i try to do heavy work, my MacBook is fine for basics in LR but can't handle much more and lets be honest, who wants to go into work without getting paid, even if its personal.

So my question is:

Could i set up this spare SSD as my Lr catalogue/prem pro video clips and have every LR computer i plug it into recognising and use it, so if i plug it into my MacBook, then my work iMac, then my home iMac, all to work from the same catalogue/library ??

I'm guessing all LR will save/access the catalogue/library in the same way and as long as i go through each one and tell it to use SSD drive as its host/main place to work from, then, in theory, they should all play nice ??

I'm really looking for everything to be in the same place, so regardless where i choose to work i have every pic/clip on hand.

I use an external 1TB SSD in exactly this way (albeit with Capture One now, but used to do this with Lightroom - not current version though).
Just put catalogue and image files on the SSD and move it between iMac and MacBook Pro depending on where I want to work. I can't see why it wouldn't work now.

Additionally, I use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy the SSD in its entirety to another drive on the iMac whenever the SSD is connected and each night as a local backup, and then have the iMac to sync that backup local copy with a copy in the cloud (I use Google Drive).

I use a 1tb ssd and keep a Lightroom catalogue on it. I can easily move it between machines without issue.

Thank you both, I assume all edits or part edits move around as they are part of the LR files ??
