During the past 18months I have been upgrading my camera bodies and started to notice occasional corrupted images after lightroom import, see example below:

This first happened when uploading images from 5DM4 a handful of times out of c.40k shots in the past 12 months Took 1DXM2 out for first time Sat night and the number of pictures impacted is a lot more already, about 2-3%. I suspect it's the imac which is 2009 vintage so I borrowed a newer mac laptop and there were no errors in the upload on that.

Any ideas what is going wrong and can it be fixed? Or time to bite the bullet and upgrade?

Is it the raw file that is corrupt or is it the preview?

Seems to be the copy of the raw file made during LR import that is getting corrupted. The original on the disc is fine.

Need an idea of how you are working... Are you uploading your files from the card onto a hard drive and then importing and using copy to a new location?

If that is the case you could use add instead, that will simply add the files to LR's database without copying... (please remember to do backups).

I'm using "Copy photos to new location and add to catalog" from the CF card to iMac. I upgraded my iMac about 2 years ago to switch the original 1TB with a 500GB SSD and 3TB where the DVD drive was. I copy to the SSD while I work on the pictures and then once processed over to the 3TB drive. All files backed up to NAS.

Interesting.... everything should be OK, if you select one of the 'corrupt' files and go to 'Develop" does it still appear 'corrupt'?
Also if you view the imported file in Finder does it also appear 'corrupt'?

Thanks Phil - in Develop module it is corrupt. In Finder the preview is fine. Opening in Photoshop....it's corrupt.

On Saturday night I saved the pictures in camera as both raw and jpg. The corruption is only happening with random raw copies when saved to the imac. I've double checked with the raw copies taken to the laptop, moved those onto a drive and opened on the imac and....they are fine!

happens now and again - I would think that it maybe a card rather than a LR problem - how often do you format your cards .......?

(just re-read the comments - I see you say that the original on the card is fine ..... so it's not a card problem)

Format before each use.

I have another problem with CF cards and the iMac now I think about and that is files from my ancient Hasselblad H3Dii can't be read with card reader so I connect to the camera and copy across which works fine. Same thing with the borrowed laptop and same card reader works fine there too. Could be something dodgy with the USB on the iMac?

To save creating a thread, I figured I'll offload this query here. Whenever I bring a photo into lightroom. On the right panel if you will, the develop module which allows for all the tinkering doesn't appear. Only something called Quick Develop which seems comparatively limited. How do I remedy this. I'm about to recover some old RAW photos with some new found knowledge !

Simples.... Quick Develop appears in the Library Module, switch to the Develop Module as Gremlin says, you can press 'D' on the keyboard and you will find all the controls.

If you have passed the 30 day free trial, quick develop are the only options that remain for you.
