I have lightroom 3.6 and I think the best way to learn is by playing, but Im really finding it hard to get to grips with.

I have uploaded an image to flikr

I want to add punch to the image.

What should I do. If you say add curves can you please provide a bit more detail.

The image will be printed about a4 size for camera club topic of arches.

Thank you v much.

Hopefully an expert will be along in a bit but for me, firstly get a book (Scott Kelby or similar) and have a read. To be honest I didn't find LR that easy at first but these make it clearer. Second, play with the sliders and see what they do. LR pretty much works from top to bottom, so start with exposure and tone and work down till you get to sharpening and noise reduction etc. this will give you the basics then the books can teach you about the adjustment brushes and presets and all the funky stuff.
Hope that helps a little.

The only caveat I would add to the above is that if you use lens correction profiles, use those first, otherwise you may find yourself correcting something which will be auto corrected again.

Wow! Could anyone use "correction" more times in such a short sentence?
(Maybe it needs correction!)

;)

I have got the Lynda.com trainng video but you almost need 2 screens to make that workable

Yep, that's why I like a book. Much easier.

Adobe tv have some great training video shorts, about 10 mins long. It really is worth watching them to give you an idea what the modules do and how the workflow works.

The kelby book is the way to go. I threw out LR twice, till I saw the light. You will need to start at the beginning of the bookand work thru, but its very rewarding, and will improve youre processing and WF no end I promise
