Edit My Images
Yes
Hey there I have just got lightroom 1.2 and installed it.
:help:
I took my first set of pics in raw and proceded to upload and it took ages [77 pics] is this normal?

It seems really slow generally. Is this normal?

And one more thing if someone has a site they could tell me about so I could make sense of it I would be a happy bunny.

:banana::banana:

Lightroom is very memory intensive and eats up the RAM on your computer. You need a fast computer with at least 2+ Gb of RAM and even then its going to take a bit of time simply due to the RAW conversion processes.

Other factors which will slow the whole thing down are:

Using other software packages at the same time.
Trying to view the images whilst its still downloading them (although this is always very tempting lol)
Getting hi res jpeg previews rather than the low res versions
Speed of the memory card
Speed of the hard drive (especially if using an external one)

Once the images have been installed you should find that it all speeds up again. i personally really like the software although its not a 'one stop shop' and for proper editting I'd advise to export into photoshop and back again.

Have fun

You really ought to upgrade to the latest version - Lightroom 2.1, which has many bug-fixes and new features and... is much faster than even LR2.0.

The latest free update for lightroom 1.2 is the 1.4.1, this fixes some bugs and gives improved support for some of the newer cameras, lightroom 2.0 requiresa paid upgrade. Wayne

Why would you edit, then export for more editing, and then "put it back into Lightroom again"? Cant you save it from Photoshop or whatever you use for the other editing?

i usually import into LR, quick edit then export to PS to straighten horizons and correct lens curvature etc as can happen from w/a lenses. this is not possible yet in LR.
the 'putting back in to LR' is perhaps done to keep LR as a file organising aid as well as raw processing prog...though PS's bridge does that just as well

It is dead easy to straighten horizons in LR! Get into crop mode (press r) then either use the spirit level tool, or drag round the outside of the image when you get the curved double headed arrow...

yes, level horizons is fine but correct lens curvatures is a PS job
