Edit My Images
Yes
When I view a collection of photos in gallery view it takes lightroom a couple of seconds or so to draw the preview image. If I scroll down to the bottom of the collection and then scroll back up to the top I still have to wait for the original images to redraw again.

Is this a settings problem or do I just need more RAM ? I'm running with 1024MB currently

TIA

I have the same thing happen on my laptop running with 2gigs memory. I would guess it draws only those images that are on your screen at that time, and as you scroll it changes.

Personally, I've never felt it being an issue but that might be because of the extra ram.

I get a short delay on my Dell desktop it's about 1 second . Thats got 3Gb of memory.

Although I suspect this may be more to do with the video card than straight forward system memory. Laptop's tend not to have as powerful video card as desktop systems, so they tend to be slower on the redraw.

Some computers, also "borrow" system memory for the video applications rather than have dedicated video memory itself. If this is the case adding more may help, but I've no direct experience of this

Check the top left corner of the screen - is LR creating the previews in the background? If so wait for it to finish and then things should be a lot faster.

BTW, I'm presuming you're working in the Web module here where the previews are created automatically, in the other modules they're done on the fly or loaded from the db depending on your settings.
