Hi Folks.
In the left hand "Folders" panel I have all my folders in a parent folder (Lightroom pics.)
They are displayed, presumably by default, in alphabetical order.
Is it possible to display them "By Date Created" as you can in Bridge? Even better, would it be possible to toggle between the two display modes?
Any help gratefully received.

My folders are all prefixed with the date they were created so alphbetical and chronological end up being the same order.

Yes, since Lightroom doesn’t have a “list files in chonological order” option, setting up your file structure with year-month-day-subject such as "2014-11-02-Sedona" is the best way to accomplish that. Folders will display alphabetically, but having the date in numeric form will put them in chronological order.

In the toolbar you have the option to "Sort: Capture time" which should display them chronologically.
You could also select "Sort: Filename" which should also give you a chronological list.

That's files, not folders.

The folder structure in Lightroom, isn't really in Lightroom. It's just showing what's on your disk. So just name them with the date first (YY-MM-DD), as Rob and Valerie say.

How do you import your images into Lightroom.
Lightroom imports into dated folders into the area you tell it to import to, so if you look at folders rather than catalogue in the library module that will be in date order.

I import into yearly sub folders. I can then move a years images to other slower drives, keeping my fast drives for this years images.

On import I name the folder based on content and then the date. Perhaps I should have done it the other way around!
As I say ideally I'd like to be able to switch between the two methods, but if that's not possible I'll stick with what I have.
Thanks again for all the comments.

If you want to switch it around for existing folders, you can rename them outside of lightroom. There are several bulk renaming programs that should allow you to edit the folder name and move the date to the front of the name.

Doh!
I should have read the OP more carefully.

I download all my images into a date folder, and with "Sort: Capture Time" set, it automatically displays them in chronological order.

I'll check on mine tonight, but in the library module my folders are definately in date order.

Bear in mind, if you do this, you will have to tell Lightroom to relocate everything. If you rename through Lightroom it will change them on the disk without having to tell Lightroom to find them again (but will take a lot longer than clicking "GO" in Automator or whatever).

Surely if the top level folder is known to LR and remains unchanged, it'll find all the sub folders automatically? That's what Digikam does.
