I was cloning out a rubbish bin in Lightroom today and used grass from the edge of the image to cover it. However instead of grass I got a wellington boot! Upon experimenting I found that there is a lot more "picture" around the edge than is actually visible in LR, for instance I managed to clone in from beyond the edge a large part of this woman's body

No C&C please, I know it is bad this is in the background of an image taken during a rainstorm:)

Does anyone have any idea how to utilise the "hidden" areas of images?

no idea on this but am interested to see, I take it you have it on fit rather than fill, cos on fill sometimes you miss the edges.

What zoom mode are you using? Have a look top left by the navigator. Which one is highlighted? Fit? Fill? 1:1? 2:1?

Sounds like Toothie has hit the nail on the head I think. That's what I would have said too.

It does not seem to matter whether it is "fit" "fill" or "11/1" or opened in PS the edge is still the same. It was only when I tried to clone part of the edge into the centre of the image that I found out there was more. Has anyone else tried it - make the clone button as big as it will go and select somewhere in the image, then put the circle half over the edge and see what happens

Nope, works as I expect it to for me :)
LR2 btw.

Strange, can you post a screenshot?

The only way I could get it to work in Lightroom 2, was on a photo where the original had been slightly cropped. Any adjustments made in Lightroom do not affect the original image, only what you see on screen. So when you go to the edge of a cropped image, Lightroom still has the part of the image that was cropped out.

Only explanation I can think of.

Sorry, Ignore this rambling. I have just realised what I was doing. I had slightly rotated the image on an earlier run-through last night and it was that which was then showing up. :cuckoo:  :embarrassed:

Your thread reminded me of this.

Anthony.

PS. Can I change the words under my name (Quite Chatty)? I thought I have seen other people with quite different information. If I can, could somebody advise how it is done? Thanks.

A.
