Lightroom classic, catalogue system, easy guide

Is there a dummies guide to the lightroom catalogue system, as It baffles and frustrates the hell out of me, as an editing program it's great, but I just can't get my head around the catalogue system, so much so I've lost loads of edits, as I've just upgraded my PC, and I think I may of inadvertently deleted some catalogues from my old PC.
