Lightroom CC - great in theory

I have been a user of LR since V3 and whilst I love the interface and usability, it is starting to drive me nuts and is all because of the cloud interface and sync issues.

What in theory should be a great idea, in practice doesn’t work anymore. Most of my photography is away from home on my travels and for this I use my iPad Pro to import to the camera roll, into LR CC (deleting from camera roll) and editing.

In theory this should be a great solution as my images sync to the cloud and back to my desktop at home for archive and any more in depth edits (like hdr or pano stitching). The problem is it doesn’t work! I have currently got 272 images trying to sync and this number isn’t reducing, meaning that the photos are stuck taking up space on my ipad and also not syncing with my desktop. Adobe also seem little to no help in fixing this issue. The problem is I can’t seem to find another solution.

I have tried Affinity and I struggle with the interface and Capture One or DXO do a version for iPad Pro, any help,or suggestions gratefully received

I know it sounds daft, but I've had sync problems with LR since it came out and I get it working every time by either closing the app (swipe up) & re-opening (i.e. turn-it-off-and-on-again), or just opening the app from within the device and leaving it open without doing anything else. Neither are a great way of working but it works for me.

Also - make sure your IOS version is up to date. I've been having (unrelated) bluetooth issues which were fixed yesterday-ish with an update. I was cursing the app (Audible), but it was all down to IOS.

Apologies if you were after a satisfactory alternative to LR... I'm looking for it too... But nothing out there (yet) comes close. You may want to trial Alien Skin if you haven't already. They just released X4 with image management & editing and that's the best one for me over the ones you mentioned (Don't know how it interfaces with iThings though). Still not good enough to replace LR for me.

Thanks Ian, it’s frustrating that there isn’t a version of DXO for IOS because if they did I could easily integrate it with Apple photos and iCloud

Does Photosmith still exist? I used that when I had an iPad, prior to Lightroom CC.

I tried using Lightroom CV on my laptop, to sync files back to the main catalog on my iMac at home, however I found it clunky. It is actually easier to start a new catalog on my laptop and manually import when I get home.

I wonder if this is why all my 3500 lightroom pictures I have synched from my laptop to my phone and iPad seem to want to "synch" every time I open Lightroom rather than as previous when it just synched any changes ?

I don't know if this works on PC, but if you press Option on Mac when you are in the sync setting sdialog on CC Clasic, you can reset the sync, which should get rid of the errors.

Could you explain that in a little more detail please ?

I am a little unsure what you mean and I don't appear to have a option key just shift, fn, alt, ctrl and cmd

Many thanks

The Option or key on a Mac is usually mapped to the 'Alt' key in Windows.

I'm not at my Mac now, but as @Furtim mentioned, alt = option.

I'd heard a rumour but looks like its happening now

Must admit every time I use my iPad with Lightroom it gets easier and more intuitive

Could be very big news this when it arrives

Must admit that I use my iPad so much more than my laptop these days but I still use lightroom classic for cataloging and editing on my laptop (at the moment)

Likewise I have Classic on the desktop for cataloging and heavy editing, but most of the time use my 12.9" iPad Pro (1st gen)

I will be happy with this “old” pro from 2017 with it
