I have recently upgraded Lightroom Classic on my MacBook Pro (one day I might really try to get to grips with CC) and when I tried to open it the message below popped up.

I have done a full back up (just in case) and then gone ahead with recommended upgrade.

The problem I now have is that when I go to any 2018 or earlier images in the "Develop" module I get the message "The File Could Not Be Found" which I guess is meaning that the Raw File is sat in a different Catalog (earlier version I assume)

Is there an easy and safe way to go between the different Catalogs or to combine them ? And if so what is the recommended way ?

Many thanks in advance

File Could Not Be Found

This error usually means that the location of the original file is not where Lightroom thought it was. It's unlikely a catalogue upgrade would cause this.
In the upper right corner of the image in the filmstrip, there's an icon you can click to locate the image which will allow you to point Lightroom to the location it's in now. The pop up should also tell you where it thought the image was.

If memory serves, LR will then go through and pick up other images in the same folder and this icon should disappear.

Many thanks. I have found that button and it has pointed me to the location the files are located which appear to be in the desktop cloud (wherever that is) and when I click on the file it seems to download and is then available to use so at least I now have a way to access any older files I want to re-look at.

I must find out why they are sat in the Desktop Cloud though rather than just on my hard drive. Guess at some point I must have set it up that way (a little knowledge and all that lol )

Thank you once again

Perhaps some archive process has "helpfully" decided anything over a year old should be archived and moved without your knowledge.

Either way, glad it's sorted.

When you updated it created a new catalogue.

You are trying to access your files via the old catalogue which is still there but no longer linked to the files.

You need to open the new catalogue that was created when you updated, it will have the same file name but with 2 on the end of it you will find it in your lightroom catalogue folder.
