Yes
I have noticed that Lightroom 3 is 50% off in the US Amazon. Normally this is a good sign that a new version is on the way.

What do you think? Any rumours on likely new features?

They've just released 3.6RC1 so there's still active development of LR3. Perhaps they're starting to react to Apples pricing of Aperture

Looking at the time line for previous Lightroom releases, it looks like it won't be too long before V4 is released.

Hoping a better brush function will be incorporated, plus a basic layer option aside from the grads function.

OnOne software are about to launch some new plug ins for Lightroom that will give you a layers function in Lightroom.

I just want soft proofing, which is waht it seems many users want. But it seems that it's not that easy to implement

Sadly it's dearer than Elements which does so much more.

If you're on a Mac you can do soft proofing in Preview (or at least you could in Snow Leopard, I haven't checked.

The only thing I'd like so see is some sort of content aware fill.

I bought LR3 a couple of months ago when it was half-price from Amazon (UK) - is this kind of price drop quite rare with Adobe products?

In addition to the last, I've just received an email from Adobe touting a 40% drop in the price of LR3 to £142 for this week. A bit of a waste of time really considering I'm already a registered user!

People have been asking for these things since LR1. Can't see Adobe doing anything that seriously reduces Photoshop's usefulness to photographers :/

Not sure about that, they have already added quite a lt of functionality from photoshop in Lightroom. I am amazed how much is included in Elements now days and that is aimed more at beginners than Lightroom.

Yeah but never enough to make Lightroom good enough on its own for serious editing, it's always been designed (or rather limited) so that it functions as an accompaniment to PS rather than a true standalone.

I get your point, but I'm sure they will add something new to photoshop to justify it's price. I wouldn't be surprised if they added a rudimentary form of layers, maybe using stacks with the ability to change the opacity and have some masking.

I also think building HDR into Lightroom is not out the question. After all, there is a lot of Lightroom users out there and the revenue from the upgrades would be a fair chunk of change.

Funny how I have CS5 but really want some of those features in Lightroom. Not sure why!

I would rather they concentrated on the fact that LR is mainly for managing huge libraries of thousands of RAWs rather than trying to make it overlap too much with CS5. Too many "features" on software can sometimes create bloat and slow it down.

Some form of plug-in system or selectable functions through preferences might help streamline it for each individual user. From my POV, I never use the print, slide or web functions, just the library and develop sections.

I think as far as future inclusions go, if they (Adobe) start including things like paths, real designy stuff, then it moves too far away from its job as a photographer's tool.

The one thing I miss from PS is the layers function - if LR had that I'd be a happy chappy.

I guess Adobe will only go so far otherwise they are at risk of making PS/CS a "no need to buy" product for a large number of current and future customers.

I think they're doing that already with a) Photoshop Elements, which only needs a proper Curves tool to be just about all you need for post-processing; and b) making owners of prior versions upgrade to CS5 before they can get CS6 or fork out a hefty pay-monthly charge.
